If you’re freelancer, it is quite hard not to procrastinate at home. 🙂 You just want to start something but without noticing, you happen to be distracted by Facebook or other social networks… – or simply by Wikipedia. Yeah, I like reading Wikis, too. 🙂
So, if you want to keep up with your deadlines, you just have to make some rules for themselves. Whenever I get a translation, I use this tactic: “I will not check other websites until I finish 5 pages.” I’m sure you all have such rules and it will be useful if you share them with us. 🙂

1 Use your client’s documentation
2 Use your own documentation build up for that client/subject
3 Use your general dictionnaries (preferably on cd/hd)
4 Use specialised dictionnaries
5 Words not found: make a note, wait till you’ve reached the end of the document, and then search for those final words – which is why I don’t like delivering in parts

I would add know yourself. Know how long you can work uninterrupted for and plan work slots accordingly. Then allow yourself a break, preferably away from the computer and reward yourself for your focus. Also, don`t work too long hours; tiredness can reduce your concentration and too much of that will create a pattern.

One last Rule could be: – Don’t lend your ears to all the advice you get for free. In Brazil, we have a saying: Advice is worthless. It it were worth anything, nobody would be giving them for free. Everybody would charge for them
